Code It! Fall 2026

Code It! for Grades 6-8 is a semester long club for students that want to learn to explore coding. Students can sign up for both semesters or pick one that works best for them. Code It! can be repeated as many times as desired as skills and projects will change each semester.

In the fall, students will learn JavaScript by coding the classic game Asteroids. Then students will use microcontrollers to take coding off the screen and into the real world using block-based coding and Python. This class is appropriate for any level of coder, though advanced coders might know many of the foundational concepts presented during Asteroids.

Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops or Chromebooks so they can continue to work at home, but we can provide devices if they do not have one. Devices do need to have an attached keyboard to work with the coding programs.

Code It! Clubs are led by mentors using curriculum developed by Broomfield STEM staff and volunteers. If you are interested in mentoring a Code It! Club, please check out our mentor page.

We believe all students can thrive in STEM, and we strongly encourage girls, students of color, students who are neuro-diverse, and students who are still learning English to join our teams. All are welcome!

Time commitment for Code It! Fall 2026:

Club meetings every Monday from 4:30 to 5:30 September 14 to December 7, 2026

PLEASE NOTE: We believe that consistency is an important part of learning and building relationships, so we expect our students to attend regularly and participate fully. While we are flexible in attendance so that our members can prioritize their health, education, and family, we ask that if your student and family cannot commit to attending at least 75% (9/12) of the meetings, you discuss this with us prior to joining the club.

A note about student fees:

Broomfield STEM offers a tiered student fee structure because we never want cost to be a barrier to participation.
