Code It! Scratch is a semester long club for students in 3rd to 5th grade that want to learn to make their own video game. Each semester will focus on a different game theme and give kids the skills they need to create unique, playable video games on MIT’s Scratch.
Students will learn about events, loops, sequencing, comparators, operators, conditionals and other important coding topics. No prior experience is needed. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops or Chromebooks, but we can provide devices if they do not have one.
Code It! Scratch is led by mentors using curriculum developed by Broomfield STEM staff and volunteers. If you are interested in mentoring a Code It! Club, please check out our mentor page.
We believe all students can thrive in STEM, and we strongly encourage girls, students of color, students who are neuro-diverse, and students who are still learning English to join our teams. All are welcome!
Time commitment for Code It! Scratch Fall 2026:
Team meetings every Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:30 September 16 to December 9, 2026
PLEASE NOTE: We believe that consistency is an important part of learning and building relationships, so we expect our students to attend regularly and participate fully. While we are flexible in attendance so that our members can prioritize their health, education, and family, we ask that if your student and family cannot commit to attending at least 75% (9/12) of the meetings, you discuss this with us prior to joining the club.
