Waitlist for FIRST Explore 2027-2028

For students entering second and third grade. Please enter the grade your student will enter in the fall of 2027. 

FIRST Explore is a hands-on program designed to inspire, excite, and introduce kids in grades 2-3 to the wonders of science, technology, and engineering in teams of up to six children. This program features a real-world challenge explored through research, critical thinking and imagination. Guided by adult coaches and the FIRST Core Values, team members work with LEGO elements and motorized parts to build ideas and concepts and present them for review. 

FIRST Explore: 

• Teaches the benefits of teamwork
• Sparks initial interest in science and technology
• Introduces basic design skills through a hands-on approach with the familiarity and fun of LEGO building
• Provides a culture of sharing and learning from others

The culmination of the hard work for many teams is the participation in a FIRST Explore festival. Volunteer Reviewers at the event interview teams to learn about their LEGO Model and Show Me poster. All teams are celebrated and leave with an award. 

Time Commitment for FLL Explore:

• Team meetings every 2nd & 4th Friday, 6:00 - 7:30 pm, August to December (First semester), and January to April (Second semester) **November meetings may be adjusted due to Thanksgiving

• FIRST Explore Festival held on a Saturday in April

• Broomfield Robotics Club Annual Celebration in early May

PLEASE NOTE: We believe that consistency is an important part of building strong team relationships, so we expect our team members to attend regularly and participate fully. While we are flexible in attendance so that our members can prioritize their health, education, and family, we ask that if your student and family cannot commit to attending at least 75% of the meetings and the FLL Explore Festival, you discuss this with us prior to joining the team. 

Payment for and participation in the second semester is required as we spread the cost of the FIRST registration and materials out over the two semesters and the festival is held at the end of the second semester. Participation in the second semester is also required for your student to be guaranteed a spot on a team the following season.
